National Gin & Tonic Day (US) April 9th 2022

This classic cocktail has been around for centuries. It started as a medicinal prescription and has evolved to become one of the most iconic cocktails.

In the 1700s, a doctor discovered that quinine could treat malaria, and by the end of the 1800s, British soldiers were drinking tonic and gin for their daily dose of the “medicine.” The simple cocktail, while it only has two main ingredients, needs to be made properly. Using high-quality ingredients and making sure the drink is very cold are key to creating the perfect mixture. When it comes to garnishing a G&T, use the botanicals in the gin for guidance.

In the two-week lead-up to 2021’s Gin & Tonic Day on April 9th, Fever-Tree, a vendor of mixers, saw an 11% jump in tonic water sales. That’s a dramatic decrease from 2020, when the company saw a 300% increase in the seven days leading up to G&T day, according to Charles Gibb, chief executive officer of Fever-Tree North America.
